DODA, Sept 29: Two-days District Level Inter Block tournament under 16 years age group organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan was today inaugurated by MLA Doda Shakti Raj Parihar at sports stadium Doda. The tournament is organized in the field of Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Volleyball, wrestling, wushu and handball.
MLA Doda while addressing the participants asked the players to participate in sports alongwith studies as extra co-curricular activities are important for developing the overall personality of an individual. There is no dearth of talent in the district and only the need is to explore it, MLA added and asked the District Youth Services and Sports Officer Doda to project the physical and financial requirements of the department for developing sports infrastructure and other facilities in the District so that the matter could be raised at the right forum for its redressal.
In the opening day under Kho-Kho block Bhaderwah defeated Block Thatri by 13 points, under Kabbadi Block Bhagwah emerged winners by defeating Block Gundana by 18 points and under Volley Ball Block Gandoh trounced Block Ghat by 2-1 sets.
Earlier, MLA Doda inspected the sports stadium Doda and on the complaints of the people regarding the encroachments of land acquired for sports stadium Doda asked the Deputy Commissioner Doda to demarcate the land of the stadium so that any further encroachments are prevented besides the process to retrieve back the encroached land if any, could be initiated. Further process of fencing the entire land will be started, once the land is demarcated, he added.
