Jammu drubs Anantnag to lift U-17 boys cricket title

JAMMU, Oct 1: Outplaying Anantnag district by a narrow margin of 11 runs in a low scoring summit clash, Jammu district lifted the title trophy of the State Level Inter-District Under17 Boys Cricket Tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Buddu, Billawar in Kathua, today.
Earlier, batting first, Jammu district scored a paltry total of 91 runs in the allotted overs. Harman was the top scorer with 21 runs, while Marutvan contributed valuable 19 runs to the total. Abdul Samad chipped in with 12 runs. All the Anantnag bowlers bowled with nagging line and teasing length to restrict formidable Jammu district to a meagre total of 91 runs.
In reply, Anantnag district bundled out for a low total of 80 runs, thus lost the match by 11 runs. Kawkab was the top scorer withj 23 runs, while Suhaib Safdar and Yawar Nazir contributed 16 and 14 runs to the total respectively. For Jammu district, Harman was the pick of the bowlers, who bagged 4 important wickets, while Sampark Gupta took 2 wickets. Abdul Samad, Abhishek and Marutvan claimed one wicket each.
Physical Education Master, Mohd Farooq was the coach of the Jammu district team.
The match was officiated by Jaipal Singh and Mohan Lal as umpires, while ZPEO Rajesh Sharma was the match referee.
The Tournament was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the patronage of its Director General, Jehangir Mir and under the overall supervision of DYSSO Kathua, Sunil Kumar.
