JAMMU, Oct 1: Five chain snatchers landed in the net of Gandhi Nagar police along with snatched gold chain and a vehicle, which they used to commit the offence.
As per police sources, On September 30, Raj Kumari, wife of Surinder Gupta of Talab Tillo Jammu lodged a written complaint with police station Gandhi Nagar that a youth snatched her gold chain, when she reached near Sai Baba Temple at Gandhi Nagar and escaped in a white colour Santro car along with his associates.
Acting on the complaint, a case under FIR Number 253/15 under Section 382 RPC was registered and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, police team from Gandhi Nagar police station conducted raids in city and outskirt area and arrested two accused, involved in this snatching case. The accused have been identified as Varun Kohli, son of late Swarnjeet Kohli and Danish Gandotra, son of Naresh Gandotra, both residents of Bakshi Nagar.
On their disclosure, two more accused, who were also involved in this snatching case were arrested by the police. They have been identified as Rohit Sodhi, son of Bansi Lai Sodhi of Exchange Road, Rehari and Sunil Kumar alias Lucky, son of Shingara Ram of Ismailpur Kothain.
During sustained questioning of all four arrested accused, it came to fore that they had sold the gold chain to Sunil Charak alias Tinku, son of Shamsher Singh of Prithipur, Bishnah with the help of Ankush Salgotra alias Tony, son of Ramesh Chander of Mehmoodpur Seora worth Rs 15,000. The actual cost of the stolen chain was above Rs 30,000.
Sunil Charak was also arrested by police and manhunt has been launched to nab Ankush Salgotra, who remained untraced till last reports were compiled today.
All the accused are drug addicts and use to snatch chains to meet their needs.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SI Vicky Thapa of Gandhi Nagar police station made the arrests under the supervision of SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Bishnesh Kumar, SDPO South Sachin Gupta, SP South Uday Bhaskar Billa and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
