Citizens Forum demands separate Tourism Development Boards

JAMMU, Oct 2:  Citizens’ Forum has demanded separate Tourism Development Boards with separate budgets for Jammu and Kashmir regions.
In a statement, the Forum president Mr Chadha welcomed the announcement of tourism development projects for Jammu and Samba districts but said this was not enough. “Jammu as a whole province needs a comprehensive Tourism Plan to convert Jammu as an International Tourist Destination,” he said.
Tourism Development Authorities are not the answer for the comprehensive tourism development of Jammu. We demand a separate Tourism Development Boards with separate budgets for Kashmir and Jammu regions respectively, he added.
While referring to an advertisement on television with Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed inviting the International tourist to J&K by showing Kashmir’s beautiful spots in the clips, Mr Chadha lamented that the CM has failed to show even a single presentable spot from Jammu region, because there is none even one equal to the ones in Kashmir in respect of development.
Mr Chadha alleged that the fate of Patnitop is going to be doomed with the opening of a Tunnel from Chenani to near Ramban. “We have already requested to the Government to develop Patnitop as a bristling satellite township to attract tourists from all over India, who otherwise prefer to go to Himachal Pardesh instead,” he added and also demanded proper development of Mansar and Surinsar lakes with infrastructure and good roads for the tourists to visit and stay.
