Ace gymnastics coach Krupali nominated observer PYKKA J&K

JAMMU, Aug 25: A national gymnastics coach, having the reputation of producing International stuff from J&K in the field of gymnastics, Krupali Singh, an Arjuna Awardee in Gymnastics has been nominated as observer for the Panchayat Yuva  Krida and Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), a flagship scheme of the Union Government for promoting sports at the village and block level.
Krupali has been nominated by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in view of her vast experience in the field and her landmark achievements as a player and coach of the J&K and Indian national teams.
She is amongst the observers named across the country for supervising and directing the ambitious scheme to ensure its meaningful implementation.
The Union Government had made a generous allocation of 215 crore, for PYKKA while only 14.5 crore  were allocated for urban sports infrastructure, which is an indication of stress being laid by the Government on strengthening sports at grass root level.
“The manual of instructions issued by the Government is a reflection that the responsibility is huge and I shall do my best to ensure that the development of the funds are utilized properly to achieve the targets of the scheme” said Krupali Singh emphasizing that support of the Department of  Youth Service and Sports, J&K shall be imperative.
It is pertinent to mention here that PYKKA provides funds for the development and maintenance of sports grounds in villages and block panchayats. It plans to introduce such facilities throughout India over a period of 10 years. Depending on the population and area of the panchayat, more than one facility may be funded. Each village panchayat is given a one-time grant of INR 100,000 and each block panchayat is given Rs 500,000 for this purpose. Additionally, an annual grant for the purchase of sports equipment is given to the tune of Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 for village and block panchayats respectively. An annual maintenance grant of Rs 12,000 and Rs 24,000 is also given through this scheme.
