9 villages being developed under SAGY: Haq

SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq said that nine villages have been identified in the State by the concerned Members of Parliament to be developed as model villages under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY). The Minister added that the department is taking all required steps to implement the scheme.
This was stated by the Minister while replying to a question by Mohammad Kursheed Alam in the Legislative Council today.
The Minister said activities including interaction with Gram, Mahila and Bal Sabha, interaction with occupational groups and local organizations including youth clubs, organization of cultural and sports events, painting and literary competitions etc have been undertaken in the identified villages.
The Minister said different activities under environment conservation have also been taken up in these villages and at the State level a workshop-cum- orientation programme was also conducted earlier this year for MPs, Deputy Commissioners and Panchayati representatives.
He said monthly review meetings and fortnightly video conferences are also being held by Union Ministry of Rural Development regarding progress under various activities in these villages.
He further stated that there is an Advisory from Prime Minister that every MLA/MLC has to identify one village in their respective constituency which will be later developed on the lines of SAGY.
