SAMBA, Oct 11: Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga today kick started Rs. 4.40 crore construction works for the embankment (Bund) of river Basantar.
The Minister was accompanied by DDC Samba Sheetal Nanda, SDM Vijaypur Rajnish Gupta, Executive Engineer PDD Samba, Sanjiv Bhagat, Executive Engineer Flood Control Jagdish Raj, AEE Flood Control Ashok Gupta and other concerned officers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Government has already released the funds amounting to Rs. 4.40 crore for completion of construction of Phase-I of Basanter river embankment, adding that for construction of Phase-II embankment at village Nanga, the Government has submitted a Detailed Project Report for Rs. 49 crore to the Central Government for funding. As soon as the proposal meets the approval the project will be started after completing the tendering process, said the Minister.
Ganga directed the officers of the concerned department to gear up their efforts for completing the project within stipulated time frame. He directed for ensuring the quality of work strictly as per the specifications laid down under the DPR, adding that any deviation will be viewed seriously. He said that the Government is taking all necessary measures to protect the flood-prone areas of the State so that the people do not face any inconvenience during flash floods and water logging.
Responding to the demand of locals, he announced that the Swankha road will be improved at the earliest for the convenience of pilgrims and tourists coming from across the country, besides Ramgarh road will also be widened/up-graded soon.
The Minister said that present Government was committed to provide all basic amenities to the people like safe drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, education, health and road connectivity besides better lanes and drains. He appealed to the people to pay electricity bills regularly and also clear the pending dues so that the revenue would be utilized for strengthening the power infrastructure in the State.
Ganga urged upon the people to maintain peace and harmony in the state saying that some unscrupulous elements are spreading false rumors for their vested interests and trying to create unrest in the society. He appealed them not to pay heed to the false propaganda and maintain peace under all circumstances which, he said, is mandatory for ensuring development in the State.
Later, the Minister also kickstarted the construction work of lane and drain at village Barota, Kamore, Keso and Sarba of Tehsil Ramgarh under BADP scheme. He assured the people that the localities would be developed with all basic amenities, adding that there was no constraint of funds under development sectors.
