SRINAGAR, Oct 13: Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Member of the Legislative Council, called on Governor N.N Vohra, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Dr. Ganai brought up various issues relating to the rapid development of Rajouri-Poonch region, particularly keeping in view the frequent disruption of normalcy because of the recurring disturbances caused across the LoC.
She also raised attention to unexploded shells which have been lying in the agricultural fields in the Balakote and Saujian sectors, consequent to the heavy cross-border firing by the Pak side in the past weeks. In this context, the Governor spoke later in the day to Lt. Gen. Nimborkar, GOC 16 Corps who agreed to have this matter looked into without any loss of time.
The Governor advised Dr. Ganai to vigorously pursue the implementation of all development programmes in her area.
Salman Nizami, Organising Secretary and Media Incharge, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) also called on Governor and apprised him about his party’s views on certain matters of public importance, particularly the need to take urgent steps for strengthening communal harmony in the State.
Prof. Rais Akhter, Emeritus Professor, Centre for the Study of Regional Development, School of Social Sciences, JNU, called on Governor.
Prof. Akhter, who is here as participant in the 11th JK Science Congress which is being held in University of Kashmir, shared with the Governor his experiences of the ongoing Science Congress. The Governor and Prof. Rais also had discussions on certain consequences of climate change in the three regions of J&K.
