JAMMU, Oct 15: Law School in University of Jammu today organized an extension lecture by Bharat Desai from JNU, Delhi.
In his lecture to the students, Mr Desai talked about the current challenges and developments in the field of law. One of the biggest challenges, he said, was commercialization of law as a profession in present context of the consumerist trends that had set in. While making a reference to Mahatma Gandhi, he focused upon the need to rebuild value systems and essential role of ethics in every profession.
Further, he highlighted the role of teachers towards promoting value education among the students who are the future of tomorrow. Maintaining that Law needs to be changed with changing needs of the society, he said that future architecture of the judiciary has to be based upon ethical foundations and mere making the legislations is not enough. Sensitization with regard to diverse issues is equally important in order to make the laws workable, he added.
Dr Sanjay Gupta, Director of the Law School, presented welcome address while Dr Rinku Gupta introduced the speaker to the students and faculty.
Dr Seema Rohmetra presented the formal vote of thanks.
Earlier, the Law School also organized a `Shradhanjali Programme’ on the eve of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary.
Dr Sanjay Gupta, while paying tributes to Dr Kalam, asked the students to follow teachings of the Missile Man.
