SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that Sports nurture body and brain of youth and inculcate discipline, sportsmanship and team spirit in the sports persons.
The Chief Minister said that his Government is giving due attention to the growth and development of sports at all levels in the State. He said various sports facilities including development of play fields and stadia in all districts of the State.
Underlining the need for holding sports competitions and tournaments in various categories and encouraging boys and girls to participate in sports from their young age, the Chief Minister said that this would help to develop sports temperament in youth and make the State one of the best sports States in the Country.
The Chief Minister this morning inaugurated remodelled Sher-e-Kashmir sports Stadium at Bandipora completed at a cost of over Rs. 1.50 crore.
The Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports, R. S. Chib, Minister for CAPD, Qamar Ali Akhoon, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Legislators Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and Nazir Ahmad Gurazi were present on the occasion among others.
The Inauguration of the stadium followed by a football match between Power Development Corporation football team and Bandipora 11. The PDC football team won the match by defeating Bandipora 11 by 2 goals to nil.
The Chief Minister gave away trophies to the runners and winners teams and also individual prizes to the players.
