Dalai Lama chairs 5th Convocation of LPU

JALANDHAR, Nov 16: Nobel Laureate for Peace and great spiritual leader of Tibet, Dalai Lama graced the 5th Convocation of Lovely Professional University as chief guest.
On the occasion, Dalai Lama honoured LPU toppers of various academic programs with gold medals. Near 4000 LPU students of Batch 2015 pass outs were also awarded with degrees. LPU also conferred the Degree of Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa, upon Dalai Lama for his courageous statesmanship, scientific temperament, and universal benevolence.
Governor of Punjab & Haryana and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Kaptan Singh Solanki presided over the convocation ceremony. The Chief Editor of Ajit Group of Publications S Barjinder Singh Hamdard presented vote of thanks. Lovely Group Chairman Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar and MD Nissan Motors Arun Malhotra shared the dais with the chief guest.
Appreciating LPU environment, one of the most celebrated religious leaders Dalai Lama invoked students to preserve India’s great culture for a better world as overall picture of India is harmony. “India is ‘Guru’ of all Tibetans and we are its strong disciples. India should share its power of tolerance with the world and youth and people of India should practice it within India. In fact, India is like Guru to the world also,” he said.
Asking the students to work hard, Dalai Lama said that prime purpose in this life is to help others as we all are human beings of one world.  “To make self and others feel happy; we must practice compassion. This is my simple religion. The present problems in the world are created only by the people themselves. We will have to solve out these ourselves. No God or prayers can get us out of our self created problems,” he said.
Invoking girl students, Dalai Lama said that being more sensitive, women should share more responsibility to bring harmony in the world. The need for global peace, human love, compassion remained the underlying message throughout his convocation address and interactions.
Eulogizing the esteemed chief guest, LPU Chancellor, Ashok Mittal said that Dalai Lama’s teaching has inspired billions of people all over the world to seek peace and practice forgiveness.
Prior to this, LPU Tibetan students accorded traditional welcome to the Dalai Lama through emotional “Tashi Shopa” (Mask) dance and folk instruments’ playing.
