Jammu wins Inter-District U-17 Girls Cricket Tournament

JAMMU, Nov 17: District Jammu won the title trophy of the State Level Inter-District Under-17 Girls Cricket Tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Govt High School Satwari Cantt ground, here.
The 3-day Tournament, which was as part of the annual calendar of activities to select the team for 61st National School Games Under-17 Girls Cricket was held under the patronage of Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Jehangir Mir and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director, Jammu and Sukhdev Raj Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
In all, 64 girls drawn from the districts of Jammu, Srinagar, Kishtwar and Baramulla took part in the Tournament.
In the final match played today, Jammu district thrashed Combined XI by 10 wickets.
Earlier, batting first, Combined XI scored a meagre total of 42 runs in 10 overs. Ikra (15) and Muskaan (10) were the main contributors. For Jammu, Sanjana, Gunjan and Isha took 2 wickets each.
In reply, Jammu district chased the target in 5.2 overs without losing any wicket, thus won the match by 10 wickets. Garima Bhat was the top scorer with 24 runs, while Sanjana contributed 16 runs to the total.
Earlier, in a league match, Jammu defeated Baramulla by a huge margin of 88 runs. Jammu scored a good total of 119 runs in 12 overs, losing 2 wickets in the process. Garima Bhat was the top scorer with 39 runs, while Sanjana contributed 18 runs to the total. Ikra and Tania claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Baramulla scored a paltry total of 31 runs in 12 overs by losing 8 wickets. Gurat and Hufaiza scored 5 runs each. For Jammu district, Isha took 3 wickets, while Aditi bagged 2 wickets. Sanjana and Gunjan claimed one wicket each.
The officiating panel included Saleem-ul-Rehman, Mohd Farooq, Jagtar Singh, Suresh Singh, Pankaj Sasun and Satika Sharma, while the selectors Anju Gupta, Zonal Physical Education Officer, Akhnoor and Rajesh Dhar, Lecturer in Physical Education, Govt HSS Camp, Bohri, Jammu were present during the matches.
