Surya Bhanu Partap creates history; wins bronze in World Wushu C’ship

JAMMU, Nov 20: Ace wushu player Surya Bhanu Partap Singh, son of Balkar Singh Pahalwan created history by winning first ever medal in World Wushu Championship held at Jakarta in Indonesia from November 11 to November 18, 2015.
With this achievement, the international medalist has been selected for the forthcoming Wushu World Cup.
The star performer was welcomed by a large gathering, especially the members of sports fraternity with enthusiasm and spirit at Jammu Airport today. He was garlanded with bundles of currency notes on the occasion.
Bhanu defeated his rival from USA in the first bout and toppled Sri Lankan player in the second round, thrashed his rival from Macau in the third round, before losing to Russia in the semifinal to get a bronze medal in this prestigious international event.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bhanu Partap won the gold medal in the 35th National Games held at Kerala earlier this year and a bronze medal in the Pars Cup held in Iran in the month of September, 2015.
He was also accompanied by Kuldeep Handoo, National Wushu Coach of India, who was there as a technical official.
Prior to participation in this sporting extravaganza, Bhanu attended a 45-days coaching camp, organized by Wushu Association of India in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI) at Imphal and another long duration coaching camp at Bhopal which had commenced in the month of July and was running till the date of competition.
These coaching camps and the trip to Jakarta was sanctioned by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India at cost to Government.
