UT for Ladakh still on top agenda: Chhewang

LEH, (Ladakh) Nov, 21: The BJP has not left its claim on grant of UT Status to Ladakh and party MP from the Ladakh region Thupstan Chhewang while addressing a mammoth public rally held at historic Pologround  here after the party was voted to power for the first time in Ladakh Hill Development Council elections said the demand is on top of his agenda.
Expressing his gratitude to the people of Ladakh for voting BJP to power in Council election, Thupstan Chhewang assured them that the newly elected councilors will perform as per the expectations and its onus lies on everyone to strengthen the Hill Council to take the struggle of UT status to Ladakh to its logical conclusion.
Blaming Congress President, Tsering Samphel and MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora for not raising their voice in favour of UT in State Assembly during its 12 years tenure Thupstan said “the UT is my top prime agenda but BJP formed the Government with PDP on Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and it was decided in the CMP that Article 370 will not be touch therefore we cannot raise the demand at the movement. However I will never compromise on UT and I stand by with the UT demands and if Congress have concern for UT then the two MLAs Nawang Rigzin Jora and Deldan Namgyal should raise the issue in the State Assembly said Thupstan Chhewang”, he added.
Speaking on the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement on UT the Ladakh MP said that BJP supports UT for Ladakh and it is only BJP who can grant UT to Ladakh and Rajnath Singh’s press statement said that “at the movement we have no plan to grant UT to Ladakh” which Congress misquoted said MP.  He added that Ladakhi unity is based on communal harmony and Kargil will also surely support for UT in future and “even when I was in Congress Party I had raised the UT demand without any hesitation and even today I stand by my statement and I’m not afraid of anyone for  raising the UT demand declared Thupstan’’.
Mentioning about Ladakh fund allocation as Rs.21000/ crore out of Rs.80,000/ crore special financial package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during recent visit to J&K MP said that he would continuously makes efforts that Ladkah should get its due share.
LAHDC CEC Dr.Sonam Dawa in his address to the gathering said that he feels blessed and lucky to work under the guidance of senior leader and MP Thupstan Chhewang and Minister Dorjay and promised good governance, transparency with the support of his well educated and energetic team having vast experience. He also mentioned that newly elected councilor vow to fight for corruption free society to serve the people with dedication and sincerity.
He also appealed the Government employees and public to support then in their endeavor for the development of Ladakh. He also mentions that the newly formed Council is studying each department minutely so that future development can be taken on the basis.
Earlier, BJP acting President Tsewang Gonbo in his address promised to provide clean and transparent Government during its five years tenure. Upper Leh Councilor Lobzang Nyantak expressing his gratitude to the people said that he had been rendering service since 1985 and have gained lots of experience and encouragement to perform better. Yuva Morcha President Dorjay Angchok expressing his gratitude to party High Command for giving preferences to youth brigade said that BJP believes on uniform  development of all regions irrespective of any religion, cast and creeds and urged the councilor to study each constituency minutely to develop the region uniformly.
Nyoma constituency BJP candidate Urgain Chosdon also spoke on the occasion urging the women fraternity to come forward to empower themselves.
