JAMMU, Dec 4: To commemorate the spirit theme “Inclusion matters: access and empowerment of people of all abilities”, 23rd International Day of persons with disabilities was observed at Amar Singh Club Jammu. The event also marked to pledge the support in bringing J&K State Trust Bill 2014 (National Trust Act 1999) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was organized by Disabled Care Foundation and Nirvana Academy in association with Indian Red Cross Society Jammu Region and Amar Singh Club Jammu with the support of Mindscape Educational and Environme-ntal Trust.
On the occasion, Rajesh Gupta, MLA Jammu East was chief guest while Vijay Saraf Secretary Amar Singh Club, RC Puri Secretary IRCS and Balram Saini were the guests of honour. Rajesh Aggarwal, Vikrant Dogra Vice Chairman FIBDO, Hitesh Badyal President Nirvana Academy were special guests.
The programme commenced with the lighting of lamp, followed by the presentation of the cultural programme.
As many as 40 students from Specially Able Schools namely Sahara Rehabilitation Centre Trikuta Nagar Jammu, St Johan Rehabilitation Centre Mandal Jammu, Asha AWWA, Army School Ware House Jammu and J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra Shahidi Chowk Jammu took part in the cultural programme and displayed their talent in solo and group performances.
Dananjay Kacharu and Neha Sharma were awarded with Young Achiever Award for their distinctive achievements in the field of disability where all the participants were honored with medals and schools were given mementoes for participation.
Rajesh Gupta while speaking on the occasion urged the people to contribute to the celebration so as to promote the equal rights for disabled persons as well as to support and enhance their morality.
Balram Saini highlighted the importance of bringing J&K State Trust Bill 2014 (National Trust Act 1999) in J&K and urged Government to address the issue on priority.
Earlier, Umesh Gupta presented the welcome address and highlighted the importance of the day along with various problems being faced by the person with disabilities.
In the end, vote of thanks was presented by Ravi Puri, Secretary IRCS Jammu.
Among others present were Tahir Mushtaq, Cultural Head, Nirvana Academy Ramban, Vikul Gupta, Prof Sham Gupta, Murari Lal, Rajeev Bhardwaj, etc.
