JAMMU, Dec 4: The Gandhi-King Literary Society of KC Public School under the aegis of Gandhi peace foundation, Jammu Chapter celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a series of events.
The major event was the visit of 15 hearing and speech impaired children from JRC Home for Physically Challenged to KC Public School.
The visiting children were given a warm welcome by members of the Students’ Council of Junior Wing. After a quick round of the school campus, they were escorted to the Art Arcade of the school where they enjoyed an hour of painting and drawing along with their hosts. The creative skills the visitors showcased through their paintings and drawings were truly amazing. Each visitor was also gifted a drawing pad and a box of crayons. The Council members had brought special refreshment for them which they shared together in the school Dining Hall. At the end of their visit, they were given a warm send off with hugs and handshakes.
The Principal praised the members of the Students’ Council of Junior Wing for having lived up to the UN theme of 2015: “Inclusion matters: Access and empowerment for people of all abilities.”
Dr Seema Rohmetra, Coordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation Jammu Chapter highlighted the importance of such events in toning up the morale of such students and in making them feel empowered and equally important as any other student belonging to different academic institutions.
