KATHUA, Dec 15: The 6th Police Martyrs’ Memorial North Zone Inter-Club T20 Cricket Championship 2015-16, organized jointly by the J&K Police and Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua in the memory of DySP Manjeet Singh and other brave hearts of J&K Police, who made supreme sacrifice by laying down their lives for the sake of nation, was inaugurated by Sheesh Paul Vaid, Additional Director General of Police, Hqrs PHQ J&K at Sports Stadium, here today.
SP Kathua and other Officers of Kathua Police, Principal PTS Kathua, Commandant IRP 19 Bn, Commandant 121 Bn CRPF, ADDC Kathua among other officers of Police Department and Civil Administration, families of Police Martyrs, School Children and other respectable citizens also witnessed the opening ceremony of the Championship.
The first match of the Championship was played between Vicky Cricket Club Pathankot and Minerva Academy Chandigarh.
The toss was won by Minerva Academy Chandigarh, who chose to field first. Vicky Cricket Club Pathankot scored 91 runs in 18.1 overs. Sukhjinder was the top scorer with 24 runs, while Jaskaran contributed 14 runs to the total.
In reply, Minerva Academy Chandigarh chased the target in just 17.2 overs by losing 3 wickets, thus won the opening match of the tournament by 7 wickets. Ravi Inder Singh scored 28 runs and Manpreet Goni contributed unbeaten 23 runs.
Gurinder Singh of Minerva Academy Chandigarh, who took 3 wickets by giving only 16 runs was declared as man of the match and was awarded with cash prize of Rs. 1000 and a trophy.
