SRINAGAR, Dec 20: In the Annual General Meeting of Winter Games Association of J&K, the final dates for holding the National Alpine Ski, Nordic Ski and Snowboarding Championships for Senior Men and Women were finalized today at Hotel Heemal, here.
The meeting decided that the teams will be asked to reach Gulmarg on January 31, 2016 and the inaugural function will be held on February 1 and from 2nd to 5th February the competitions will be held in Slalom, Giant Slalom and Cross Country events in Gulmarg and Kongdori.
It was further decided that the Tourism Department will organize the championships with technical support from the Winter Games Association of J&K and Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering. The championships will be held under the aegis of Winter Games Federation of India.
The meeting was presided over by Secretary Tourism and president WGAJK, Farooq Shah.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Director Tourism, Mahmood Ahmed Shah, General Secretary WGAJK, Shabir Wani, Muhammad Yusuf, Gul Mustafa Dev, Rashid Tantray, AR Dar, GM Parray, Abdul Hameed, M Shafi Khan, G.M Hajam and two representatives from Biscoe School.
Mr Shah stressed for the need to hold training camps in snow sports for the children and youth of the State on payment basis so that more boys and girls are involved in winter sports.
