JAMMU, Dec 21: The lack of support from the State was evident when the Jammu and Kashmir volleyball contingent came out for the opening Parade Ceremony of the National Women Sports Festival at Patiala in Punjab.
Unlike the players of other States, who have good name and fame in the field of sports, the players from the State of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the March Past in cold weather conditions, without wearing proper jackets and suitable sports shoes.
Sources said, that the players of the other States were wearing warm clothing with uniformity, while the eves from Jammu and Kashmir wore sleeveless thin jerseys to leave them in the lurch.
What was shell-shocking was to learn that the concerned authorities have advised the escorts of the contingent to return these incomplete uniforms back to them after the completion of the Tournament.
“On the one hand the State is striving hard to create a niche in the field of sports at the National and International scene and on the other hand, the national players receive an indifferent treatment. So, expecting state teams to flourish at the higher levels is simply to flog a dead horse,” said a volleyball coach on the condition of anonymity.
Sources further said that the officials accompanying the team have very little knowledge about the concerned game, which adversely affected the performance of the players.
For promoting sports in the State, such incidents need to be avoided and better facilities need to be provided to the players.
When contacted, DYSS authorities said that the State team has been provided with full kit before departing for the national event.
