Opposition playing petty politics over NFSA: Mahajan

JAMMU, Dec 22: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) General Secretary Ved Mahajan accused the opposition of playing politics over implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Jammu and Kashmir. He said it is a path-breaking initiative aimed at providing highly subsidized rations to the poorest of the poor and the down-trodden.
Mahajan said instead of appreciating this landmark decision, the opposition has started playing petty politics over the issue. He said the only hurdle that was being faced by the State in the implementation of the Food Security Law was that the same was earlier being sought to be implemented on the basis of the 2001 census, while the same is now being implemented on the basis of the 2011 census. “We must not play politics over a piece of legislation which seeks to benefit the poor and the down-trodden, this legislation will end-up benefiting a large number of people”, he added.
“The opposition should rather play a role in ensuring the proper implementation of the new legislation to help ensure that the benefit of the same reaches those who deserve it,” said Mahajan, adding that launch of ‘Laadli Beti’, ‘Aasra’, ‘Marriage Assistance Scheme’ and ‘Hunnar’ schemes for the poor and deprived young girls are revolutionary steps which will go a long way in addressing the issues related to women welfare in the State. The ‘Skill Development Mission’ is yet another program that will benefit the youth of the State in a big way, Mahajan stated.
