SRINAGAR, Sept 5: In an exciting contest formidable side of Chandigarh got better of Jammu and Kashmir by two goals to one (2-1) in a must win match and knocked it out of the tournament as the quarterfinal position has been cleared in the ongoing 58th National School Games Under-17 boys football, here today. For J&K Saniv Mohd scored the lone goal.
The teams which have qualified for the quarterfinals included Manipur, Chandigarh, Delhi, Tripura, Uttrakhand, UP, Odisha and Punjab. Now, Manipur would lock horns with Uttrakhand, UP will take on Chandigarh, Delhi would face Odisha and Tripura would meet Punjab in the quarterfinals to be played tomorrow.
Earlier, in pool matches played today at Bakshi Stadium, Tamil Nadu thrashed CBSE by 7-0 in a one sided contest, wherein Dane and Puvi of Tamil Nadu scored two goals each, while in another match Uttrakhand defeated Chatissgarh by 3-0.
At Polo ground, the match between Manipur and Goa ended in a (2-2) draw, while in another match at the same venue, UP scripted a narrow win over MP by a solitary goal scored by Arvind Yadav.
At Kashmir University ground A, Punjab thrashed Kerela by 4-1 goals in a one sided contest and the match between Karnataka and Assam ended in a draw as both the teams were locked one-one in the stipulated time.
At Kashmir University Ground B, Tripura beat Andhra Pradesh by 4-1 goals. For Tripura Mangat Kishore and Ranjit scored one goal each.
Delhi defeated IPSC by four goals to one (4-1) at Islamia College ground, Srinagar, while in another match at the same venue Odisha blanked Vidhya Bharti by (7-0) goals in a one-sided contest.
