JAMMU, Dec 26: 13th J&K State Athletic Championship was declared open by S Rangil Singh, president J&K Olympic Association and J&K State Athletic Association at BSF Athletic Track, Paloura, here today. While Mr Rangil was the chief guest on the occasion, Suneel Mahajan was the guest of honour.
Over 250 boys and girls drawn from all over State are taking part in the Championship.
Prominent among others present during the opening ceremony were Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Vice President Athletic Federation of India, S Ravinder Singh, Secretary J&K Athletic Association, Vikas Gupta, Joint Secretary Judo Federation of India, Sheikh Tulal Ahmed, Romesh Sharma, Nirmal Singh, S Sarwant Singh Gill, Sharat Chander Singh, Gurucharan Singh, S Gurmeet Singh, Sahil Sharma, Gurbachan Singh, Ajay Sharma, Sarabjit Singh, Chamail Singh and Vinod Bhatia.
In Under-14 400 mtrs boys, Gunjeet Singh won gold, Abhinav Kundan bagged silver and Tariq Mehmood claimed bronze, while in Under-16 400 mtrs boys, gold, silver and bronze medals went to Asaf-Ul-Zaman, Harman Pal Singh and Hardil Aziz respectively.
In 1500 mtrs boys, Kulvir Singh won gold, Sajjad Ahmed bagged silver and Umar Farooq clinched bronze, while in 600 mtrs, Zahid Ahmed, Maqsood Ahmed and Bhanu Sharma claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Under-20 1500 mtrs boys, Younis Mushtaq, Omar Hameed Dar and Inderpal Singh won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, while in Under-20 400 mtrs boys, Pankaj Saini, Mohd Tariq and Abid Hussain claimed gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.
In Under-20 boys long Jump, Vishal Singh, Wahid Ahmed and Abid Hussain clinched gold, silver and bronze medal respectively, while in Long Jump Imran Farooq bagged gold, Royal Deep Singh claimed silver and Akashdeep Singh clinched bronze.
In 600 mtrs girls, Manjeet Kour, Amit Kour and Sheetal Bhagat won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, while in Under-14 girls 200 mtrs, Divya Singh, Tanisha Choudhary and Vishali Sharma claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Under-18 girls 200 mtrs, Shilpa Charak won gold, Sakshi Chauhan clinched silver and Priya Sharma won bronze, while in 1500 mtrs, K Anu Priya was the winner.
