JU’s Prof Abha elected Secretary Indian Sociological Society

JAMMU, Jan 2: The Head, Department of Sociology, University of Jammu, Prof Abha Chauhan was elected Secretary, Indian Sociological Society (ISS), the result of which was announced at ISS Headquarter in New Delhi, recently.
Prof Abha alongwith another female colleague Prof Sujata Patel from Central University of Hyderabad created history as it was for the first time that two top posts in ISS were occupied by two females, because Sujata was elected president of ISS.
Apart from President and Secretary, five Managing Committee Members were also elected to the office of Indian Sociological Society.
For the post of Secretary, there were five contestants and a total of around 1400 votes were polled from all over the Country. Prof Abha Chauhan got 387 votes, while her nearest rival secured 304 votes and the rest of the three secured 245, 180 and 171 votes respectively .
Prof Abha has been an active member and office bearer of the International Sociological Association. Earlier, she was Member, Managing Committee ISS and Convener Research Committee 10 of ISS on Gender Studies.
