SRINAGAR, Sept 6: The formidable side of Chandigarh would lock horns with strong unit of Tripura in the summit clash of the ongoing 58th National School Games Under-17 boys Football Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at various venues, here.
Earlier, in the first semifinal, Chandigarh scripted a narrow win by a solitary goal over Uttarakhand to seal berth in the finals, while in another semifinal, Tripura got better of Delhi to make it to the title clash to be held at Bakhshi Stadium in Srinagar at 10 am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in the quarterfinal matches held in the morning session today, Uttarakhand prevailed upon Manipur by a solitary goal (1-0) and the goal scorer was Rohit Negi, who showed extraordinary motor-ability to net a blinder.
In another quarterfinal match, Chandigarh toppled Uttar Pradesh by five goals to four (5-4) via tie breakers, while in the third quarterfinal, Delhi outplayed Odisha by two goals to nil (2-0) and in the fourth and last quarterfinal match, Tripura blanked Punjab by three goals to nil (3-0).
Today’s matches among others were witnessed by Jaipal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports, Ashok Kumar, Vice President SGFI, and Chairman Control Room, KS Murti, Additional Secretary SGFI, Nilofar Amin, Chairman Technical Committee and HS Sodhi.
