JAMMU, Jan 8: The Food and Allied Workers Union (Jammu)  held protest demonstration at CAPD new store Nehru Market here today.
The workers engaged by the CAPD Department at various food grain stores today assembled at new store located at Nehru Market, near Bikram Chowk and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans for the early redressal of pending genuine demands of the grain bags handlers/ labourers. They also shouted slogans against CAPD Director and Commissioner/ Secretary.
While addressing workers, president of the Union Bishan Dass extended gratitude to the Minister for CAPD Ch Zulfkar for listening to their problems keenly as he passed on directions to the officers after meeting with the minister. But unfortunately, the Director and other officers have adopted the attitude of neglect. Due to the indifferent attitude of the officers of the department, the poor workers are suffering badly.
Union president said that workers are demanding enhancement of the wages/ rate of  loading / unloading /handling of food grain bags but officials are not bothering. Since 2012, there is no hike in the rate while the price index has gone so high. They are demanding grant of Minimum Guarantee Wages at par with FCI norms. He also demanded engagement of 17 workers of Muffasil depots and 12 workers for replacement of stores. The workers also demanded that their wages be released before 10th of every month.
Other Union leaders Nazim Din, Harminder Singh and Om Parkash also spoke on the occasion.
