JAMMU, Jan 9: Two out of the three cricket teams sponsored from the State of Jammu and Kashmir for the prestigious JK-UAE T20 Friendship Cup namely Simula and Simax played an exciting match at the world famous and historical venue of Sharjah International Cricket Stadium today.
The venue holds the Guinness book of world records for hosting maximum number of one-day matches followed by Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia.
Legendary Cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq was special invitee for the match.
Inzamam congratulated Hilal Rather for his efforts in bringing the emerging and experienced cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir to UAE for giving them further exposure and providing them opportunity to showcase their skill at the higher levels with International players.
In today’s match, Simax won the toss and elected to bat first and set a target of 140 runs. Javed Ali was the top scorer with 79 runs, while Rajesh Gill scored valuable 34 runs. Simula played brilliantly and chased the target in 13th over. Anshuman Sharma scored power-packed 69 runs off just 27 balls, studded with 5 towering sixes and 4 delectable fours. He was well supported by former Ranji Trophy players Shashi Kumar and Dhruv Mahajan, who contributed 30 and 21 runs to the total respectively. Anshuman Sharma was declared as man of the match for his magnificent batting display.
Rohan Gill budding cricketer of Jammu and Kashmir was the youngest participant in the Tournament.
The tournament was organized by Simula Sports Club, in association with Ministry of Youth Services and Sports, J&K and Jammu and Kashmir Police Department with an objective of giving International exposure and providing ample opportunity to the State youth to showcase their skills on a truly international platform.
