JAMMU, Jan 11: Kissan Mazdoor Union (KMU) has made  a strong appeal to State Government  headed by Governor  N.N. Vohra  to pass Hindu Shrine Bill at an earliest to protect , preserve historical temples in the State.
While addressing the press conference President of Kissan Mazdoor Union G.R. Malhotra said that in the absence of any institutional mechanism for the preservation of the temples and shrines in the State, the land mafia is free to indulge in the annexation of the said properties with impunity and without fear of law.
He said that their organization has demanded the State Government to pass the J&K Hindu Shrines and Religious Places (Management and Regulation) Bill on the Pattern of State Gurudwara Prabandhak Board. He said that that these temples and shrines were the symbols of religious beliefs and need to be protected. He said the Government was fully aware of the situation, but it is really surprising that they have not passed the Bill in this regard, which is pending in the House for the last many years.
He said if Shrine Board is there then repair work can be started without any delay of the temple shrines which are burn to ashes by anti social elements.
He said that there are many other pending issues relates to religious sentiments of Hindu community in the State viz. closure of wine shops near the temples and to apply dress code for both males and females to enter in the temples as per the direction of Madras High Court. He said that last month in a significant judgement the Madras High Court Bench prescribed a dress code for men, women and even children wanting to visit temples maintained by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department across the Madras State.
