JAMMU, Jan 14: Demanding redressal to their issues, Food and Allied Workers Union continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day here at main food store.
The workers assembled in main food store and raised slogans in favour of their demands. They were demanding immediate redressal to their issues and warned to halt the operations in all the food stores across the State.
The protesters were demanding enhancement in loading and unloading of bag rates as per price index, grant of minimum guarantee wage at par on FCI pattern, engagement of 17 workers of mufassil depots and replacement of 12 workers and payment of wages by the 10th of each month.
While speaking, President of the Union, Bishan Dass expressed concern over the non-seriousness of the officers in redressing the issues. He stated that the loading and unloading charges have not been increased since 2012 and petty rates are being paid to the workers.
“The workers are desperate on account of delayed payment of monthly wages, which adversely affect the benefits of their Provident Fund, ESI, LIC, etc”, he added.
He informed that they will continue their protest till their demands are not redressed and warned to halt the operations in all the food stores across the State.
Meanwhile, similar protest also continued in main store at Srinagar also.
