Food & Allied Workers Union’s protest enters 6th day

JAMMU, Jan 15: The protest by Food and Allied Workers Union entered sixth day here at main food store.
The workers assembled in main food store and raised slogans in favour of their demands. They were demanding immediate redressal to their issues and warned to halt the operations in all the food stores across the State on January 18 and 19.
The protestors were demanding enhancement in loading and unloading of bag rates as per price index, grant of minimum guarantee wages at par on FCI pattern, engagement of 17 workers of mufassil depots and replacement of 12 workers, payment of wages by the 10th of each month, implement pension scheme, grant of lead of city supply, provide/engagement of listman for city supply and provision of work for main stores to outcome the problem of lesser work there.
While speaking, President of the Union, Bishan Dass expressed concern over the non-seriousness of the officers in redressing the issues. He stated that the loading and unloading charges have not been increased since 2012 and petty rates are being paid to the workers.
“The workers are desperate on account of delayed payment of monthly wages, which adversely affect the benefits of their Provident Fund, ESI, LIC, etc”, he added.
Dass stated that there has been no change in the stand taken by the Government of ignoring the fact that labour is the main pillar and the back bone of the department. The workers leave no stone unturned in discharging their duties, but in reward they are treated as bonded labourers by the department, he added.
He informed that they the workers are fed-up with the attitude of the department and has decided to come on roads.
He added that they will continue their protest till their demands are not redressed and warned to halt the operations in all the food stores across the State on January 18 and 19 if their demands are not redressed.
Dass also appealed to the Governor to look into the issues of the workers and redress them at the earliest.
Meanwhile, similar protest also continued in all store across the State including Srinagar.
