JAMMU, Jan 16: Jammu Stars XI and Khalsa Cricket XI registered emphatic wins to stay alive in the 4th Eid Diwali Christmas T20 Cricket Cup for students and youths of the state, which got underway at Parade Ground , here today.
The tournament in which 24 teams are participating is being organized jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, Simula Sports Club, Atman Sports Club and Christian Sports Organization.The Organizing Committee includes Hilal Rather,Sanjay Mahajan,Rajesh Gill, David Mattoo,Asif Gill, Rajesh Dhar,RP Singh, Sunil Sambyal and Sunny Gill.The slogan of the tournament is ” Khelo Khushi Sey- Par Nasha Mat karo”.
Earlier, Vinod Kumar, SP City Jammu in presence of Fr. Kuriakose Chairman Christian Sports Organization, R C Kotwal SP Hqrs and Rajesh Gill Chief Prosecuting Officer and Organizing Secretary of the tournament inaugurated the tournament in an impressive and colourful function.
While speaking on the occasion, SP City Jammu lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting this mega event and said that the events held on the occasion of the festivals like Eid , Diwali, and Christmas etc smacks an ecstatic feeling in everybody’s mind. He further said that J&K Police is regularly conducting different sports activities under the civic action program with the objective to channelize the energy of the youths of the state in a right direction so that they may involve in anti social, drugs etc.
Earlier Fr. Kuriakose also spoke on the occasion and said that the Christian Sports Organization in conducting sports activities and Drug awareness Camps in collaboration with J&K Police with the sole motive to help youths to shun drugs so that they lead a healthy life.
Iin the first match Jammu Stars XI defeated Sai Cricket Club by 3 wickets .
Batting first, Sai Cricket Club scored 156 runs in stipulated 20 overs, with Arun Johny (64) and Ashu (55) being the main scorers. Micky took 4 wickets for Jammu Stars XI, while Sunil Sambyal and Vikrant shared one wicket.
Jammu Stars XI, in reply achieved the target in 19 overs by losing 7 wickets and won the match by 3 wickets. Gourav was the top scorer with 35 runs, while Anand Tripathi contributed 21 runs. And Micky chipped in 16 runs . Johny and Bittoo took 2 wickets each for Sai Club, while Varinder and Arvind claimed one wicket apiece. Micky was adjudged man of the match.
In the second match, Khalsa XI scripted a thrilling win against United Cricket Club.
Batting First Khalsa Club scored 151 runs in allotted 18 overs game with Prithi 37 runs,Mannu 32 and Nitin 21 were the main scorers , Sameer took 3 wickets,Saqib took 2 wickets, while Ali took 1 wicket for United Cricket Club .
United Cricket Club did not chased the target and made only 124 runs in the allotted overs by losing 5 wickets, thus lost the match by 26 runs.Amir and Saqib were the main scorer who made 46 and 21 runs for their team. Sushant and Monnu shared two wickets and KK took one wicket .Monnu was adjudged man of the match .
The matches were officiated by Sandeep Manchanda, Vinod, Sunil and Danny, while RP Singh conducted the proceedings of the inaugural function.
