Usha Vohra bats for upliftment of women

JAMMU, Jan 27: First Lady of the State, Usha Vohra lauded the efforts of the NGOs, Social Organisations and allied Associations for doing excellent job with regard to welfare of the female folk and their excellence in each and every field of life. She said that the upliftment of women in the present era is the need of the hour, adding that the slogan ‘Beti Bechao, Beti Padao’ should be followed in letter and spirit.
Mrs Vohra was speaking at the Ladies Cultural Programme, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports as part of the Republic Day Celebrations 2016 at Government College for Women, Parade, here today.
She congratulated DG Sports and lavished praise on the Department of Youth Services and Sports for holding the customary Ladies Cultural Programme in a beautiful way and urged upon them to organize more such programmes to serve the noble cause of uplifting women.
Earlier, Director General Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir presented welcome address. He said women deserve salutation for their sacrifices and qualities as daughter, sister, mother and wife.
The Programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest, Mrs Vohra and other dignitaries, which was followed by a series of the cultural items. The inaugural song was presented by the students of Government College for Women (GCW), Parade, which was followed by a beautiful Punjabi song presented by the students May Fair Higher Secondary School, Jammu.
Shraman Sanskriti Manch presented a heart-touching skit on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’, while the students of Crescent Public School, Janipur, presented ‘Garbah’. A Kashmiri song presented by ACM Public School, Janipur enthralled the audience, while the song and dance presentation by Guru Harkrishan Public School, Nanak Nagar was simply mesmerizing.
Jain Taruni Mandal presented an appealing skit, while Tachers of National Public School, Miran Sahib presented Punjabi Folk Dance.
The chief guest presented mementoes to the participants and appreciated them for their performances.
The Director General, Jahangir Mir presented a memento and a shawl to the chief guest as a token of gratitude from the organizers.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Mrs Ruby Sharma, Mrs K Vijaya, Mrs Kotwal, Mrs Zubeeda Jahangir, wives of senior police and civil officers, director DD Jammu, besides women field officers and staff of Youth Services and Sports.
Vote of thanks was presented by Sukhdev Raj Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu, while the Programme ended with the presentation of National Anthem.
