Weatherman predicts snowfall

Srinagar, Jan 28: The Meteorological Department today predicted snowfall in Kashmir valley even as the 40-day ‘Chillai-Kalan’ which mostly remained dry this season is ending on January 31.
“Under the influence of a western disturbance, heavy snowfall will take place at few place in Kashmir,” an official of the Meteorological Department said here.
The weatherman has also issued warning for heavy snowfall for Friday and Saturday and urged the State Government to be prepared for it.
The watherman said that the maximum and minimum temperatures in Srinagar will remain around 6 degree Celsius and Zero degree Celsius respectively. He said that the maximum and minimum temperatures in Jammu will remain around 11 degree Celsius and 7 degree Celsius respectively.
The official said the day temperature in Srinagar was recorded 11 degrees, four degree above the normal for this time of the year and the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 0.4 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg recorded maximum day temperature of 0.6 degree Celsius while night temperature settled at minus 6 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam in South Kashmir recorded day temperature at 9.8, five degree above the normal and the night temperature was recorded at minus 5.3 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded maximum temperature of 13.0 degree Celsius and the night temperature was recorded at 1.1 degree Celsius.
The day temperature at Kokernag stood at 10.4 degree Celsius and the night temperature at 0.1 degree Celsius.
The North Kashmir’s Kupwara district recorded maximum of 10.3 degree Celsius against normal of 7 degree Celsius and the night temperature settled at minus 2.4 degree Celsius.
The MeT official further informed that the Jammu recorded 22.1 degree Celsius today while the minimum temperature stood at 7.0, below two degrees normal.
