JAMMU, Feb 14: Kavinder Gupta, Speaker State Assembly expressed his deep concern over the plight of river Tawi and its tributaries. Mr Gupta who was the chief guest in Basant Panchami celebration organized by Tawi Andolan and Namami Gange Abhiyan at Tawi Aarti Ghat Bikram Chowk here .said that issued being raised by Tawi Andolan regarding environment and ecological imbalances require immediate redressal by the Government.
Extending full support the activities of Andolan he called upon people at large to join the movement for clean, green and healthy atmosphere for Jammu. He supported the demand of strict implementation of all green laws through out the State.
Earlier by welcoming the chief guest Kavinder Gupta, the chief of Tawi Andolan, Adv. Chander Mohan Sharma apprised him of the activities of Andolan. Adv Sharma in his speech while referring to recent directions of State High Court said the directions of the court are as revolutionary and historical, wherein the Court has directed to take immediate step for diversion of filthy drains which are outcome of Illegal colonies settled on the basin and the banks of river Tawi.
He further said that for our Andolan it is Tawi as whole and not the only portion of the river which passes through Jammu City is our subject matter. Although UD Department has prepared some plan for beautification of banks of the river in city area, but for rest of the river originating from Kaplash Kund to its merger point with Chanderbhaga Government has no plan, so Tawi Angolan demands creation of a statutary Surajputri Tawi Development Board. He appealed to the chief guest to raise the issue of constitution of this Board with the Government.
A senior functionary of the Andolan Prof Bhola Nath gave the detail of the history and its importance as lifeline of people of Jammu province. He also referred to the memorandum submitted to the parliamentary Committee headed by Ashwani Kumarji jointly by NGO working for the cause of Suraj Putri.
