Girls Athletic meet, mega cultural event under Pahal gets massive response

KATHUA, Feb 16: The final competition of dedicated ‘Girls Athletic meet’ under ‘PAHAL: Ek Kadam Nari Samman Ki Aur’ initiative of the District Administration to implement ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ flagship programme was held today at Sports Stadium here where MLA Kathua, Rajeev Jasrotia was the chief guest.
In the final competition long jump, shot put 200m race, kabaddi and kho-kho events were organized at sports stadium Kathua where in girl of block Barnoti, Marheen, Hiranagar, Basholi and Billawar participated under the supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Sunil Kumar.
In ShotPut Jamila Begum of Marheen block bagged 1st prize while Priya Hansa of Block Marheen stood 2nd and Saleema Bano of block Billawar clinched 3rd position.
In Long jump Parveen Bibi of block Kathua bagged 1st position while Munisha Devi of block Marheen stood 2nd and Bandu of block Barnoti stood 3rd.
In 200 mt race Parveen Bibi of block Kathua bagged 1st while Santosh Devi of block Barnoti stood 2nd and Jyoti Devi of block Billawar stood 3rd.
Similarly, prizes were distributed among winning teams of Kho-Kho and Kabaddi events.
Later, a district level cultural programme under PAHAL initiative of the District Administration was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Kathua at Government College for Women Kathua where Deputy Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest.
The mega cultural events featuring folk dance, nukkad natak, skits, group songs, mimes, poems and solo songs performances on the theme of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'( BBBP) was held which enthralled the jam packed auditorium of women college.
Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kumar in his address said that administration has rolled out calendar of activities to educate people of every walk of life to improve the declining trend of child sex ratio under PAHAL initiative. He informed that to make PAHAL initiative a successful campaign, provision for celebrating ‘Laadli Diwas’ on 19th of every month has been devised out. He further highlighted that sex ratio in identified districts are very alarming and Kathua district is among 100 districts of country with adverse sex ratio. He appreciated NYK for spreading Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao messages through Culture activities through Youth Ambassador.
Principal, Govt. College for Women Satinder Singh presided over the function.
District Youth Coordinator NYK Kathua, Som Datt Zard highlighted the aims and objectives of District Culture Festival.
In Folk Group Song, Lal Bhadur Sashtri College stood 1st, Girls Hr. Sec. School 2nd and Surya College of Education 3rd. In Folk dance, Surya College of Education bagged 1st and Rajiv Gandhi College of Education clinched 2nd Position. In Poem competition, Zehanvi Sharma stood 1st and Shafalli Verma 2nd and Shruti Verma 3rd. In Skit Nav Adarsh, Hr. Secondary School stood 1st; Little Angels 2nd and Lal Bhadur Shastri College bagged 3rd position. In Solo Songs, Neha secured 1st position, Sharmila 2nd and Davinder Sarmal clinched 3rd position.
Later, DC Kathua also gave away mementos to the winners and participating organizations and institutions.
