JAMMU, Feb 18: The night chowkidars working in the CAPD Department on temporary basis for the last over 15 to 20 years have started indefinite protest dharna in front of the office of Director CAPD here.
About 170 workers engaged on the temporary basis in Jammu region and now working under different capacities are demanding regularization. A large number of workers today sat in front of the office of Director CAPD here and held protest dharna. They alleged that despite clear instructions from the higher authorities the Director CAPD was not forwarding their case to the Commissioner/ Secretary CAPD for the final disposal.
They shouted slogans against the higher authorities demanding their regularization. They also pointed out that many posts were lying vacant in the department and they should be adjusted against these posts. Many of them are working for the last more than twenty years and nine of them have sought Supreme Court directions. Despite this, the department was causing delay on the flimsy grounds. They said that they would continue their indefinite protest dharna till their case is decided.
These agitating workers sought the intervention of Governor N N Vohra and Chief secretary B R Sharma into the matter. Later, they also met the Commissioner/ Secretary CAPD Sourabh Bhagat and appealed him to decide their fate as early as possible as they are working on the meager wages since long and were unable to feed their families.
