Athletics registration camp on Feb 20

JAMMU, Feb 18: To identify and nurture talent in athletics, National Yuva Cooperative Society Limited (NYCS) is organizing the GAIL – Indian Speedstar program in Jammu. In this regard a one day registration camp will be organized at MA Stadium on February 20 where on spot registration facility will be available to the candidates. Certificates will be distributed to all the participants registered for the program. Athletes from other districts can also participate in the camp.
Interested participants can apply for the program by filling up the pre-participation form available online at www.gailindianspeedstar.org and can collect from the schools. There is no entry fee required to participate in GAIL – Indian Speedstar program.
In order to strengthen the sports culture & athletics and to create a talent pool through which Indian athletics can perform well at the 2020 Summer Olympics, GAIL (India) Limited has embarked on a Grassroots Athletics Program, GAIL – Indian Speedstar, which is aimed at unearthing young talent across the length and breadth of India.
National Yuva Cooperative Society Limited (NYCS) is organizing the GAIL – Indian Speedstar program in 55 districts across 10 states in the first year. GAIL – Indian Speedstar will identify and nurture talent in track events (100m, 200m and 800m) for children between the ages of 11-17 years. Anglian Medal Hunt Company (AMHC) is the Technical Partner of the program which aims to nurture talent across sporting fields and to create icons for the future.
A panel of eminent sportspersons including legends like P T Usha, Rachita Mistry, Anuradha Biswal and Kavita Raut have been appointed in the selection committee to support selections and guide coaching camps. The role of the members of selection committee would be to create the selection criteria for the program and developing the training plan and module for the selected athletes at the national level.
At initial stage of selection process, trials at district level will be conducted under the guidance of coaches and selectors appointed by the committee and selection will be based on talent identification and criteria set by the committee.
Shortlisted boys and girls from state trails will attend an intensive national camp. Final trials will be held after the coaching camp and winners will be selected based on the qualification criteria and their potential.
After completing the whole process of selection, winners will be given extensive training throughout the year.
