Villagers block road against attempt of bovine smuggling

UDHAMPUR, Feb 24: An incident of bovine smuggling attempt led to strong protest by locals at Majalta even as Police rescued all the animals and seized the truck, being used for the transportation, here today
According to police reports, the truck loaded with 17 bovine animals, bearing registration number JK02AG-7977 and on way from Mansar to Kashmir, skidded of the road near Manwal and turned turtle. As some locals spotted bovine animals in the truck, they called other villagers on the spot and started a protest demonstration there blocking the Manwal to Udhampur road.
Even as Police also reached the spot, vehicular traffic on the road remained suspended for nearly two hours in the wake of protest by locals, who dispersed off after Police assured strict against the smugglers.
Out of the 17 bovine animals, 2 were found dead, apparently because of the accident while Police rescued the other animals and seized the truck. However, driver and smugglers had managed to escape even as Police has registered a case in this connection at Police Station Majalta.
