Excise Deptt destroys 375 ltrs, 50 bottles illicit liquor

KATHUA, Feb 24: Excise Department destroyed 375 litres and 50 bottles of illicit liquor, here today.
As per official spokesperson, under the supervision of Excise Commissioner, J&K T Angchuk and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu, Mohammed Shahid Saleem, Excise Team Kathua under the command of ETO Sandeep Gupta conducted raid in Keengdayal area and recovered 375 litres and fifty bottles of illicit liquor. The team later destroyed the illicit liquor.
Meanwhile, Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Mohammed Shahid Saleem has warned the general public, proprietors of banquet halls, clubs, restaurants and hotels to desist from serving liquor meant for sale to Defence and Para-Military Forces or belonging to any other State in liquor parties as the same cause huge loss to the State exchequer vis-à-vis excise revenue.
He added that serving the liquor meant for sale to Defence and Para-Military Forces or belonging to any other State is illegal and will attract penal action under Section 48 of the J&K Excise Act, 1958 which is imprisonment for three years,.fine ten times of the prescribed fee (Rs 50,000) and sealing/blacklisting of the venue (banquet hall/ club/ restaurant/ hotels/etc), he stated.
