JAMMU, Feb 25:Six hundred and ninety nine budding athletes drawn from around 20 prominent Schools of Jammu participated in the National Yuva Cooperative Society Limited’s Talent Identification initiative for selecting athletes from remote areas and disadvantaged communities throughout the Country.
The event sponsored by GAIL (India) Limited with Anglian Medal Hunt Company (AMHC) as the technical partner of the organizers.
As many as 155 girls participated in the event held at MA Stadium Jammu in Under-14 and Under-17 categories, with 131 in Under-14 and 24 in Under-17.
In boys section, 208 athletes took part in Under-14 category, while 336 participated in Under-17 category.
“Out of this huge participation, only 6 athletes have qualified for the higher levels, who will be participating at the bigger circuit at Delhi in April,” informed Opinder Sharma, State Coordinator NYCS.
The selection committee comprises a panel of eminent sportspersons including PT Usha, Rachita Mistry, Anuradha Biswal and Kavita Raut.
