UDHAMPUR, Feb 25: With a view to pay tributes to the police martyrs and to strengthen police- public relations, 4th Police Martyrs Memorial Volleyball tournament got underway at Mini Stadium, here today.
The tournament is being organized by the Udhampur -Reasi Range Police under Civic Action Plan.
Director SKPA, Udhampur, Inspector General of Police , Rajesh Kumar who was the chief guest on the occasion formally declared the tournament open.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Udhampur Reasi Range, Surinder Gupta, SSP, Suleman Choudhary, Additional SP, Mohan Lal Kaith, DySP, Bodh Raj, Raj Guru, Surinder Singh, Surinder Khajuria, Bhushan Sethi, veteran players, prominent citizens and number of sports lovers were present on the occasion.
Paying tributes to the police martyrs, Director SKPA said that the sacrifices of martyrs have made JKP proud and it is due to their sacrifices that the people of the State are living in a fear free atmosphere.
He said that holding of this tournament was a step forward to remember the supreme sacrifices of our brave police martyrs and to encourage the sports culture for healthy society.
While speaking on the occasion, DIG, Mr Surinder Gupta said that eight outstanding teams of the state participated in the tournament and exhibited their sports talent with a sense of true sportsmanship.
He said that more efforts would be put in place to organize this tournament on a broader canvas with the participation of best volleyball teams of the state.
Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Suleman Choudhary presented welcome address, while Advocate, SD Kotwal and Jasvinder Singh conducted the proceeding of the programme.
Volleyball team of Housing Colony Udhampur defeated City Club Volleyball Team Udhampur in the inaugural match.
