JAMMU, Mar 3: Police arrested a narcotic smuggler along with charas near Gujjar Nagar area, falling under the jurisdiction of Peer Mitha police station.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Peer Mitha police station laid a naka near Gujjar Nagar and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the person escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, cops chased and intercepted the person near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 110 grams of charas wrapped in six maize covers and arrested the narcotic smuggler.
The accused has been identified as Arshad Bhat, son of Abdullah, a resident of Langate, Srinagar.
He had brought the consignment of charas from Srinagar for sale among the youth in Peer Mitha and adjoining area, but police nabbed him and thwarted his designs to make youth drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 32/16 under Section 8/20 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Peer Mitha police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Peer Mitha police station Inspector Javed Malik and Incharge Gujjar Nagar police post SI Mohammad Rashid made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO City Chandan Kohli, SP City Dr Vinod Kumar and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
