MANDI, Mar 4: Demanding immediate roll back of National Food Security Act, launched recently in the State, as well as an inquiry into the stocking of 11,000 solar lights, which were issued for Poonch district in 2014, National Conference activists staged a massive protest demonstration at Mandi in district Poonch today.
Led by Provincial president of Youth National Conference for Jammu, Ajaz Jan, a large number of National Conference workers and common people assembled at Mandi tehsil headquarters and staged protest raising slogans against recently launched National Food Security Act, terming it harmful for general public and also demanded its roll back.
The NC leader alleged that most of the data is faulty, names of many genuine families are missing in the lists. It shows that PDP- BJP coalition launched NFSA without preparations”, Mr Jan said while urging Governor to roll back the Act.
Coming down heavily on previous PDP- BJP Government, NC also alleged that a mega initiative for providing solar lights to the people of Poonch was put in cold storage merely for political reasons and an impartial inquiry should be conducted in the matter.
“Keeping in view the power crisis, in 2014, 11000 solar lights were sanctioned for Poonch district by the then Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Farooq Abdullah, but soon after the sanctioning, floods hit the State and then assembly polls were announced due to which Omar Abdullah led Government was not able to distribute these lights among poor masses”, Jan said.
After formation of new Government, the initiative of distributing solar lights was put into the cold storage. “We demand an inquiry as thousands of solar lights, stocked in Poonch are getting faulted posing loss to Government exchequer,” Jan said.
Harcharan Singh Khalsa, Abdul Ahad Bhat, Sadardin Chak and Ghulam Abbas also spoke on the occasion.
