JAMMU, Mar 4: On the call of All India Insurance Employees Association, massive demonstrations were held today outside offices of LIC of India Jammu, by LIC employees against the budget proposal of the NDA Govt to levy tax on EPF withdrawal.
The demonstration was led by Com Rajesh Gupta at Unit-1 Jammu, Karan Kumar at Jammu-2, Vijay Verma at Kathua, Tilak Raj at Samba, Jagdish at R S Pura, Surinder at Udhmpur, Vinod Sharma at Rajouri, Khaliq Hussain at Poonch and Ram Raj at Doda.
Speaking at DO Cell Jammu, Comrade Pawan Gupta, divisional secretary Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association Srinagar Division, lambasted the Central Government for the budget proposal to levy tax on EPF withdrawals. He said it will discourage the workers for domestic savings which is an essential factor for growth of an economy.
“Already the social security of workers has been snatched by implementing NPS which provides for defined contribution but never says about anything about the benefits, and now the NDA Govt has attacked the rights of the workers by snatching their social security by taxing their hard earned money urgently required by them for the marriage of children, education of children on retirement and as a provision for their old age,” he said.
He further alleged that it was a sort of cruelty towards workers which the NZIEA strongly opposes and demands the NDA Govt to withdraw this budget proposal. “This move of the Government is not only against the workers but also against the economy of the country,” he said.
Comrade Pawan Gupta also opposed the continuation of service tax on insurance policies and against the move of the Government to privatize the public sector General Insurance Companies.
Others who spoke, included Com Romesh Chand, Com Raj Kumar and Com Dinesh Sharma, Nanak Chand and Com Alkiya Sharma.
