JAMMU, Mar 4: Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu & Kashmir State Branch, today organized a 1-Day workshop on YABC (Youth as Agents of Behavioural Change), a flagship initiative of IRCS in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu. The workshop witnessed participation of more than 80 students from various departments of the University.
‘Youth as Agents of Behavioural Change’ is a flagship initiative to promote a culture of non violence and peace by educating students who would provide ethical leadership role in the community and also spread a set of humanitarian values and personal skills like empathy, active listening, critical thinking, non violent communication etc amongst their peers.
Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare, JU, presented a keynote address and laid emphasis on the students to take up responsibility to inculcate within themselves the values to promote non violence and peace.
Roma Wani, Member National Managing Body IRCS-NHQ, General Secretary IRCSJK, presided over the workshop and emphasized the point that before reaching out to the community, youth engaging in YABC have to work on inner change. They have to be committed to themselves first and then become aware of the surroundings to notice and take action in the areas where Change is required. She stressed upon the need for the youth community to come out of the four walls and get an experience of life while working for others and serving humanity.
The students were also sensitized about the basic aim of the YABC. The participants were enthusiastic to join the Red Cross Movement as volunteers and to be a part of YABC programme which would be launched very soon. The function also witnessed screening of various documentaries/videos based on YABC module.
The training program concluded with a vote of thanks by Gagandeep Sharma.
