JAMMU, Mar 4: While the Government of India is focusing on skill development, an already established successful scheme in this regard, which was beneficial to many SC/ST/OBC and BPL students, has been stopped in the Government Polytechnic, Bikram Chowk Jammu thus depriving training to many poor and needy students.
The scheme Community Development Through Polytechnics (CDTP) for providing skill development training to SC/ST/OBC and poor students, free of cost, in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, was being run in the colleges and various extension centres in remote villages for the last more than 15 years.
However, since August 2015, the scheme has been stopped as the MHRD is not releasing the required funds for the same.
The college had advertised the notice for admission to various courses under this scheme in August 2015 and more than 225 students had applied for the same but the course has not been started till date.
Moreover, the students, who have completed their courses of six/three months in the month of August 2015, have not been issued the certificates till date thus subjecting them to harassment.
According to Krishan Singh, Co-ordinator of the scheme, the MHRD has not released the funds and the college authorities have taken up the issue at appropriate forum to get the issue resolved.
However, at the same time, sources said that the college has not only stopped the training but also disengaged the Instructors, who are jobless now after rendering service of more than 15 years.
