ADDC flags off 2nd National River Rafting Championship

REASI, Mar 11: In order to promote adventure sports in the area, Tourism department, Jammu in collaboration with District administration today organized 2nd National level White Water River Rafting championship in Chenab River at Baradari.
On the occasion, Additional District Development Commissioner Bhawani Singh Rakwal was the chief guest, who formally flagged off the 12 km long Marathon Rafting event.
As many as 12 teams from   Army, BSF, Air force, JKP, J&K Tourism Jammu/Kashmir, ITBP and two local teams besides one women team from  district Kathua participated in the event.  The Rafting event commences from Baradari Bridge and culminated at Dera Banda Bahadur, Reasi.
While speaking on the occasion, ADDC said that the event would promote adventure tourism in the district. He said that the conduct of such National level event in the area would help give fillip to the tourism sector.
He urged the department to organize more such adventure activities which would attract more tourists in the area in near future.
Among others, AD Tourism Dr. Umesh Shan, DySP Jugal  Sharma,  Tourist Officer Dr. Rajesh Raina,  officers of civil and Para Military forces, prominent citizens and people in large number were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the first position at 12 km rafting marathon championship was bagged by Indian Army Team represented by participants of International acumen, BSF Team followed closely at second spot.
Rashtriya Rifles Force Headquarters based at Reasi provided necessary administrative and logistic support for the conduct of the event.  General Officer Commanding Major General BV Rao complimented the initiative of Directorate of tourism and efforts by all the participating teams.
“The event is virtually a crowd puller and would strengthen the adventurous streak in the local youth of this remote area,” said Col                            SD Goswami, Defence Spokesperson (MoD).
