DIC organizes workshop for media persons

KATHUA, Mar 12:  District Information Centre  toady organized a workshop for media persons on the topic ‘Media Reporting and Ethics’ here today.
Joint Director Information Department, Jammu Nagendra Singh Jamwal was the chief guest on the occasion.
While interacting with the media persons Mr Singh  said that idea behind the workshop was to highlight the importance of good media reporting and understanding of media ethics which can improve the quality of news .
He said that as a  custodian of public interests  the press has  a right and a duty to present correct information with accuracy after proper verification .He said reporting should be   fair and unbiased adding that  editor must refrain from publishing any such work which mislead the readers and it should be ensured that the press should not intrude with  the privacy of an individual unless outweighed by genuine overriding public interest.
While speaking on the trend of plagiarism in journalism, the Joint Director said that a good writer must follow the journalistic ethos while executing his work.
Joint Director also appealed the journalists to  share their write ups and photographs for the monthly periodicals of information department. He also disclosed that the department of information and public relations has recently envisaged its new advertisement policy to make the process  more transparent and accountable.
Later the Joint Director took queries of the journalist which were mainly related to the issues of accreditation, identity cards, etc.
A memorandum of demands by the media persons was also submitted to the Joint Director during the workshop.
