JAMMU, Mar 16: Chhamb displaced persons of 1965 and 1971 have said that nothing short of original package as recommended by the State Government prescribing an amount of Rs 25 lakh per family and other components of the same, would be acceptable to them.
In a meeting of the Chhamb Displaced Persons Association held here today under the chairmanship of S R Nagial, the speakers took stock of the situation and discussed the issues related to the displaced community. The meeting expressed concern that the State as well as Central Government are keeping the DPs in the dark with regard to the amount of relief package being considered for each family as well as other components of the said package as recommended by the Coalition Government in the year 2014.
The previous Government also recommended reservation in professional colleges outside J&K for the children of displaced persons, reservation of jobs in Para Military forces, Army and other Central Govt departments and inclusion of left out DP families for assistance besides political reservation.
The meeting expressed their view that Centre as well as the State Govt should adopt sympathetic approach and stick to the original recommendation for these DPs and not to hoodwink and befool them as nothing short of original package including Rs 25 lakh amount is acceptable to them. The JPC had recommended Rs 30 lakh per family and this should have been considered with future revision of price index increased.
The issue regarding flood affected families of Barota Camp, Kamore Camp and Rangoor in Ramgarh sector of Samba also came under discussion during the meeting. They demanded appropriate compensation for them besides raising strong and concrete bund along Basantar and Devak in the area.
