KATHUA, Mar 18: State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) today issued closure orders of a cement unit located near Kathua town.
An official spokesman said that a SPCB team on the basis of public complaints conducted inspection of the M/S Andotra Cement Industries at Industrial Extension area in Kathua and found that all pollution control devices were non-functional and disconnected from raw mill as well as from cement unit while as the chimney was found cracked at many places and the wet scrubber was also found non-functional.
Upon this, the Chairman SPCB ordered the closure of the said unit and directed the District Magistrate, Kathua to ensure the closure of the unit immediately in the interest of the human safety today. The SPCB also cancelled the permission/consent to operate the said unit.
