SAMBA, Mar 24: SKUAST-Jammu organized one-day training programme on water harvesting here today to spread awareness regarding the need to adopt rainwater harvesting among the farming community.
On the occasion, Dr Meenakshi Gupta, PI, DBT Project, said that rainwater harvesting needs to be inculcated into the day-to-day habits of our everyday life to arrest the falling ground water tables.
Dr Sarabdeep Kour, Asstt. Professor, Soil Science, stressed the farmers to adopt crop rotation and use of organic manures. She briefed the farmers about the scientific methods of taking soil samples from the fields and orchards. Dr Neeraj Gupta, Asstt. Professor, PHT explained the post harvest management of Kandi area fruits and various value added products which can be made from these fruits.
Manoj Kumar, SA, IMD, sensitizes the farmers about the changing climate scenario, its remedial measures and advised them to take the benefit of agro advisories being issued bi-weekly by Agromet Research Centre.
